USA TODAY Cuts 35 Jobs, Sorta

USA TODAY is eliminating 35 newsroom jobs (and another 100 jobs companywide) in order to focus more on mobile and tablet technologies and less on the print paper, the Associated Press reports.

The good news: “most” of the newsroom jobs being cut are currently vacant, according to the memo obtained by the AP. And the paper is adding five digitally-focused positions: four reporters and one social media editor.

Whatever size they are, the cuts are part of a broad repositioning, including removing separate section editors and creating “content rings” instead.
