Now That's A Recruiting Strategy

Mobile q&a startup Hipster is trying to attract some new employees.

So it’s giving every new hire $10,000 and a year’s supply of PBR…plus skinny jeans, a bowtie, moustache-grooming services, boots, and a bicycle (fixie, we assume).

Any current employee who refers a new hire is also eligible for the goodies.

“As you know, recruiting is insanely competitive right now, so we wanted to do something that would break through the noise, and get the attention of the people we’re trying to reach,” Doug Ludlow, one of the founders of the company, told the NYT,

The company began the campaign on Wednesday and has received 240 applications. Only about 10 percent were from qualified applicants, but how qualified they were—they came from Hipster potential rivals Google, Twitter, Salesforce and AOL.

“Getting these 20 people into interviews would have cost hundreds of thousands in recruiter’s fees, and we did it for free,” Ludlow said.
