Newspapers Go In For Widgets

USA Today is in the widget game. Later this month the Wall Street Journal will offer widgets as well. Why not? ”Widgets,” are applications that can be added to a website-blog as an embed via, largely until now, social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.

They are quite viral. In April, according to ComScore, over 177 million online consumers encountered a widget. Newspapers, chasing online ad revenue to offset the print ad recession, are now going ga-ga over widgets.
