Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Approves 'As Good As We Could Get' Contract

Employees at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel have approved a new contract running through 2011 that includes no pay raises but retains the company’s “relatively generous” severance package in the event of future layoffs, the Milwaukee Business Journal reports.

“It’s as good a deal as we could get in the current state of the newspaper industry,” guild president Greg Pearson told the Business Journal.

The contract “includes language” about restoring a 6.6 percent wage cut that went into effect May 3, 2009 but doesn’t give a specific date for that to happen.
