How does the saying go? When handed lemons make lemonade! Over at All Things D Peter Kafka is writing about the phenomenon of laid off reporters reporting on their own layoffs. At the Gannett Blog former Gannett employee Jim Hopkins has rounded up fellow un-employees (and there is plenty at Gannett this week!) and is getting them to send him their layoff stories:
Unfortunately, there are a lot of them to talk about — Hopkins, via a network of Gannett tipsters, has tallied up about 1,000 cuts just in this round alone.
Some of them pass along memos from managers announcing cuts at specific papers and publications. Others pass along unverified tips. Hopkins, a 20-year Gannett veteran who took a buyout from the newspaper chain in January, is asking people to send in their personal stories.
Also, the cuts are apparently continuing at Time Inc. most recently in the IT department.
