surfing04.07.09.jpgTravis Ferre, who has never been to the gym, is Surfing‘s new editor-in-chief, replacing Evan Slater who leaves after eight years at the helm to join Hurley as digital content manager.

Ferre started at the magazine as an intern while he was still in school at San Diego State University. In just two years, the 24-year-old rose to managing editor while “bringing a youthful energy and cutting edge stoke to the office while pushing the lunchtime shred sessions to a respectable above-the-lip level,” associate publisher Tony Perez wrote in a letter announcing the news.
