Imprisoned Al Jazeera journalists Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed have been freed.
The duo had been held in Egypt since 2014, when a court found them guilty of “aiding a terrorist organization.” Then, on August 29, a Cairo court delivered a delayed ruling — Fahmy and Mohamed (along with Peter Greste) should spend three years in jail. Greste was freed in February.
Upon the release, Fahmy’s lawyer told the AP that he hopes the decision will “have a positive impact on the media and the international level.”
