Six years after Comcast’s media unit acquired recommendations operation DailyCandy from New York’s Pilot Group for a whopping $125 million, the site is being shut down. Also being turned off by NBCUniversal – Television Without Pity. From Kara Swisher’s Re/code report:
The closing impacts 64 employees at the women-focused DailyCandy and three at TWoP. Apparently, many of those staffers — largely located in New York — might be offered jobs at other NBCU properties, but that is not a certainty.
What is a certainty, per Swisher, is that Allison Moore, an executive hired away from HBO in late 2012 to try and boost DailyCandy’s traffic, will move to an undetermined NBCU position.
Staff affected at DailyCandy include: Allison Hatfield (managing editor), Ashley Parrish (editor-in-chief), Jay Blades (executive editor) and Jordan Blumberg (fashion editor). In addition to New York, the site was targeting Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and seven other U.S. cities. Read the full Re/code report here.
