In a year-end memo to staffers, Condé Nast CEO Chuck Townsend proudly proclaimed his media giant ahead of other companies like Hearst and Time Inc. He was particularly pleased with the company for adapting to change quickly and making up for soft ad sales by boosting tablet and mobile ventures.
Townsend also cited individual titles for their efforts in his memo. He mentioned Vanity Fair for being its most profitable title as well as winning Condé Nast’s first ever “collaborative leadership award,” which pushed editors to think less like writers and more like business owners. He also mentioned Vogue and GQ for their profit increases.
The Condé Nast CEO closed the letter by challenging rival execs to a race by the willow tree, but we’re still awaiting word on if they accepted.
