33 New Patch Sites to Launch in Preparation for Upcoming Election

AOL’s hyperlocal news website – Patch – is going to take advantage of the 2012 presidential election. AOL plans to add 33 sites, including ones in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire, states where voting starts earlier. It’s also expanding the Huffington Post’s Washington, D.C. site.

According to Bloomberg, Howard Fineman, Editorial Director for The Huffington Post, even added that the site might sponsor a presidential debate. “We’re talking about it, and we’re talking to potential partners,” he said.

There are currently over 800 Patch sites, and that’s without counting the 33 new ones. And all the sites have been losing tons of money. So we have to wonder when the expansion is going to stop. Sure there’s some press to be had from the election, but at what cost?
