Is Politico's VandeHei Playing Nice With NJ?

This would be a new leaf.

In a Business Insider piece published late Wednesday, the headline blares the absurdity of love flowing between Politico and NJ. In recent months, both publications have stolen employees from each other, and there’s chatter that NJ is mimicking the model of Politico, a publication that NJ knocks. The war appears to be intensifying.

Politico Editor Jim VandeHei Sends Best Wishes To The New National Journal Team That’s Trying To Kill Him

VandeHei’s quote:

It’s a great age for Washington journalism, and I wish the NJ gang luck with their launch,” Jim VandeHei, Politico’s executive editor, said in an email, responding to a question about whether Politico is worried about losing readers and scoops to National Journal’s newly-assembled all-star team.

Meanwhile, David Bradley, publisher of Atlantic Media Company, which owns, NJ, is not returning the love. He previously told the New York Observer: “They are going to be at the more racy, tabloid end of the spectrum … That seems to be the position they have chosen. I think we’ll be more of the authoritative end.”

Is VandeHei turning over a new Zen leaf of wishing competitors well?

Stay tuned…
