Examiner’s J.P. Freire to NMS

By Matt Dornic Comment

J.P. Freire, associate editor of the Washington Examiner‘s Commentary section, is leaving his post for a gig at New Media Strategies (NMS).  At NMS Freire will flex his news knowledge as a senior communications strategist.

In an email announcing his departure, Editorial Page Editor Mark Tapscott said, “I especially will miss J.P., as he and I share an appreciation for the much-maligned art of punnery, particularly during our Monday morning staff meetings.”

Freire has held his position with the Examiner for nearly two years.  He was previously the managing editor of the American Spectator magazine. In 2009 J.P. was named ‘journalist of the year’ by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Freire’s work has appeared in The New York Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Human Events, Reason Magazine, and the Washington Times. His last day at the Examiner is Friday.

Congrats and good luck, J.P.!
