File this under awkward.
WJLA’s Good Morning Washington team is seeing a few changes. Among them, an ex-wife who will replace her ex-husband on the anchor desk.
How’s that for cosmic revenge?
The new morning team is comprised of Jummy Olabanji and Autria Godfrey, who used to be married to Scott Thuman. The pair married in 2008. Thuman, who apparently has a charming side to his personality, began dating Godfrey while she was an intern there and they married a few years later. According to sources at the network, Thuman has previously threatened to leave WJLA but has so far failed to secure a new offer.
Was it the kiss of marital death when he welcomed her to his newsroom in 2011? Pictured at right: the couple in happier times.
A memo from WJLA’s Bill Lord.
Effective October 14th our new Good Morning Washington anchor team will be Autria Godfrey and Jummy Olabanji. They have done an outstanding job when paired together over the past several months and we plan to capture that chemistry on a permanent basis.
Autria has earned her way into this role on the strength of her exceptionally good work filling in for Alison Starling during Alison’s maternity leave. Jummy has also distinguished herself with excellent live breaking news and anchor work on Good Morning Washington since the departure of Cynne Simpson.
Together they make a lively, engaging and intelligent team.
We will continue our tag team morning weather approach with Jacqui Jeras in the studio and Eileen Whelan in the field. We will continue to do traffic from the WTOP Traffic Center with Amanda Meadows.
I want to thank Scott Thuman for his hard work and dedication to hosting and helping out in a myriad of ways on Good Morning Washington. Scott will return to his previous role as our Senior Political Reporter.
Please join me in wishing everyone well on their new assignments.
