Clearing up Confusion of RTCA Board Duties

confusion-4.jpeg Thank God for Mike Mastrian, director of the Senate Radio-TV gallery, and a few other trusty Fishbowl readers, for clearing up specifics on the results of the Radio & TV Correspondent’s Association Board elections.

Some confusion swirled on upcoming duties (but for the sake of keeping human relations peaceful today we won’t get into those gritty details). Suffice it to say that “NewsHour’s” Linda Scott’s position as chair comes to a close at the end of 2009. C-SPAN’s Peter Slen is the board’s acting chair for 2010.

“RTCA members serve a two-year term on the committee,” wrote Mastrian in an e-mail. “The person receiving the largest number of votes in the RTCA election becomes chair in the second year of his or her term.”

“So … Linda Scott is the current chair, and her two-year term ends this year. She received the most votes in the RTCA election in December 2007. Peter Slen received the most votes in the RTCA election in December of 2008. He began serving in 2009. He becomes chair in his second term – 2010. And, [CNN’s] Jay McMichael received the most votes in the 2009 election. He becomes chair in 2011.

“Hope this helps clear up the confusion.”
