Arthur Named New LA Times Managing Editor

johnmarthur.jpgFirst on FishbowlDC: FishbowlDC has learned from a reliable source that the new managing editor for the Los Angeles Times will be current assistant managing editor John M. Arthur. You’ll recall that managing editor Doug Frantz quit the paper recently to take a job with the Wall Street Journal.

The LATimes is saying that “There’s been no such appointment.” Our source — whom we had no reason to doubt — called it “100%,” but perhaps it’s more like “100% that the conventional wisdom within the newsroom has him getting the gig.” Next time, we’ll leave it to FishbowlLA to report the goings on in that city…
