The big news earlier this month when Travel + Leisure unveiled its annual “World’s Best Cities” awards was the fact that Charleston was voted by readers to be tops in the world. The South Carolina destination was #2 last year.
This week, another winner is celebrating: Quebec City, which beat out Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver for Best Canadian City honors. The prize prompted Quebec Tourism chief André Roy to travel to New York Wednesday to accept in person:
“It’s a real honor to receive this distinction in New York City,” said Roy. “Although we’ve often been in the top 10 on this prestigious list, being named the best destination in Canada is really gratifying.Everyone involved in Quebec City and area’s tourism industry should be proud of this distinction. The warm welcome Quebecers offer tourists is one of our great strengths as a destination.”
While the best time to visit Montreal is arguably summer, when the city’s film, jazz and comedy festivals all take place, Quebec City is at its most magical in the winter. For those contemplating the hint from Travel + Leisure, keep in mind that the provincial capital’s next annual Winter Carnival takes place Feb. 17-27.
