The Good News: If You Get Laid Off, You’ll Probably Get Severance

This is what qualifies for good news in this economy. If you get laid off, a new survey finds, you’ll probably get severance.

WorldatWork, a benefits association, and HR consulting firm ICBC conducted a random survey of HR and benefits managers at North American countries. What they found is that over the past two years, the companies that offered severance plans haven’t really cut back. And almost half (44 percent) of companies still subsidize COBRA at least partially.

Only 13 percent of employers didn’t offer any severance, though an additional 4 percent offered severance only to CEOs or other key execs.

Yep, this is “good news” in 2011.
