Perhaps the first phase of the New Orleans rebuilding effort was completed when this book was published: Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans? A Collection of Stories and Essays Set in the Big Easy. Essays by local writers, many written in the past six months, restore the city’s spirit while paying homage to tradition with 19th century engravings, local maps and soul food recipes. Do You Know is only the second book published by Chin Music Press, who seem to have a pretty good notion of quality product. Keep your eye on them.
If you’re in New Orleans, head over to the Saturn Bar this Thursday night from 6-9pm to taste some of those recipes in action. The Upper Ninth Ward landmark will also be celebrating its grand reopening. 3067 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans, 70117.
