New Jersey Magazine Publisher Adds TV Show

In this year’s list of holiday-season-tipping thank you’s, SJ magazine publisher-editor Marianne Aleardi ends with a nod to her readers. By this time next year, the audience thank-you portion could be much larger thanks to a new TV show launching Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. on public TV channel NJTV.

Each month, This is South Jersey with Marianne Aleardi will highlight – with the help of co-host Meg Maley – various local businesses, events and human interest stories. Aleardi is partnered in the enterprise with SQ Productions. From SQ founder Tamer Tewfik’s recent blog post:

This is the very first time we are producing television content on our own. I have been discussing the possibility of the show with Marianne over the past three years…

We are used to making our corporate films with approximate lengths, but NJTV needed the episodes to be exactly 26:46 and not a second longer, which was a challenge. We also had to enter the world of Closed Captioning. Per FCC regulations, all TV broadcast content has to be captioned. This opened up a new process of learning.

When Aleardi purchased SJ magazine in 2005, it had a staff of two and a circulation of 30,000. Today, according to her LinkedIn page, it boasts 12 employees and a circulation of 54,000.
