Matter becomes its own standalone thing. The publication that was part of Medium gets spun off into a content studio of sorts, with Mark Lotto and Hillary Frey leading the editorial operation while Medium and Twitter founder Ev Williams heads up the advisory board. Additional members of the board include Stephen Friedman, Laura Olin, Lydia Polgreen, Bobbie Johnson and Fisher Stevens. “We want stories and projects that are timely, daring, form-breaking, that have genuine social value and cover topics of consequence, that offer unique and underrepresented perspectives, that will bend the zeitgeist and change the culture,” Lotto wrote in a post announcing the news…

Harper’s Magazine installs James Marcus as editor in chief. He had been executive editor and replaces Christopher Cox, who was fired last month… The New York Times adds Andrew Glazer and Malachy Browne to its video team. They had been at Vice News and First Look Media’s reported.ly, respectively… The Associated Press moves Jonathan Fahey to global health editor. He had been global markets editor… The Wall Street Journal makes staff reporter Tamara Audi the Western chief for U.S. news… Josh Eastright is the new head of Bloomberg Government. He replaces co-founder Don Baptiste, who is leaving… TV Guide loses Michael Schneider. Paul Turcotte is the new president and publisher, with Nerina Rammairone moving up to editorial director, Rich Sands taking over as senior executive editor and Amy Miller getting the deputy editor spot…
