POLITICO revised logo Award-winning Tampa Bay Times’ journalists Bill Duryea and Michael Kruse are leaving the Sunshine state and taking their talents to Washington.

Politico’s Susan Glasser sent out a staff-wide email yesterday announcing the new hires for the publication’s brand new enterprise project.

Duryea, who will lead the project, has served as the Times’ national editor for nearly a decade. He also edits the Floridian, a monthly news feature magazine.Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 5.41.13 PM

“Bill is an incredible ideas-driven editor, and in addition to the team he’s built and runs day to day he has been an adept editor drawing from talent across the newsroom in Tampa, a model we are expecting he will follow here at Politico in working to develop great enterprise stories from across the staff,” Glasser said in the email.

Kruse will be the project’s senior writer with a focus on political enterprise going into the 2016 election season. He’s currently a staff writer for the Times’ enterprise team. He has received numerous awards for his work, which has also been recognized by a number of professional journalism organizations including the Society of Professional Journalists, the Society for Features Journalism and the Associated Press Sports Editors, among others.

“In Michael, we are adding a perfect first recruit for Bill’s team; this is a duo that has a great and proven record of producing award-winning journalism together,” Glasser said. “We’re thrilled at this big new development for Politico’s journalism, and can’t wait to welcome Bill and Michael to the newsroom. “
