One of the niftiest aspects of the Orange County Register is its dedicated military news section. With a great focus on Camp Pendleton, it keeps tabs on both the tragic and inspiring aspects of day-to-day enlisted life.
That section now has some new competition. AOL’s Patch officially announced today that it has launched its first military focused outlet, Camp Pendleton Patch, with no editorial affiliation with the base. From today’s press release:
The site will cover both Camp Pendleton and neighboring Oceanside, CA. The site’s editor, Jared Morgan (pictured), is a former U.S. Marine and a current member of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, the National Press Photographers Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Patch says that some of its existing sites already cater to communities with a large military population, and that they plan to launch more “Patch Military” sites in the near future.
