Allison Arieff, the former Dwell editor who abruptly left in August after what she called a “fundamental change in the magazine’s mission,” has yet to leave the masthead. Arieff is still listed as editor in the November issue, and pens an editor’s note that says nothing of her fate. All of which isn’t surprising, given magazines’ lead time, particularly fine-crafted design books like Dwell. But we’ve spent enough time around glossy editors to know that anything especially an ousted editor’s note can be pulled at the 11th hour. Perhaps this was an oversight. Perhaps this was Dwell‘s parting gift to Arieff. We’d guess it was somewhere in the murky, prefab middle.
