You can sense the anticipation of push back in this line from the NYT’s introduction to its video. “Not everyone attending a Trump rally behaves this way. In fact, many are polite and well mannered.”
The “this way” behavior Ashley Parker, Nick Corasaniti and Erica Berenstein are referring to is a collection of racial, ethnic, religious and misogynist slurs and outbursts that have been captured on film during a year of reporting on the Trump campaign.
But that polite, well-mannered majority is mainly silent. The trio continues:
“But while protesters are often shouted down, crowds seldom express disapproval of the crude slogans and angry outbursts by Mr. Trump’s supporters. Indeed, these displays have become inextricably bound with the Trump show itself—as much as the snaking entrance lines and the calls to ‘build a wall’ along the border with Mexico.”
It has, in fact, become so expected, most people have become inured to just how disturbing it really is.
