Meteorologist Jim Van Fleet To Leave Orlando For Tampa

Jim Van Fleet is moving across the state of Florida from WOFL in Orlando to WTSP in Tampa/St. Petersburg/Sarasota, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

“After a roller coaster ride over the last 10 years at Fox 35, I feel like WOFL has become my home and the staff have become my family, so clearly this has been a very difficult decision for me,” Van Fleet, who grew up chasing tornadoes in Oklahoma, said in a statement. “I would also like to say for the record that Fox 35 did make an offer for me to stay and it was a very generous offer, but quite simply this opportunity with WTSP is something meteorologists spend their entire lives working towards, and to have this door open for me right now is a dream come true and one I would be foolish to pass up.”

WTSP has seen a number of weathercasters depart the station in recent weeks, with Sherry Ray Hughes and Chris Suchan scheduled to leave in September and chief meteorologist Tammie Souza’s January departure. Van Fleet’s presence is surely welcomed.
