Mega Millions Journalist Establishes USC Scholarship Fund

This is the kind of news that just makes you feel good. Jacki Wells Cisneros (pictured), the NBC 4 employee who won a gigantic Mega Millions jackpot last spring together with her husband, has established a $1 million scholarship program for undergraduate students at her Alma Mater USC. An initial Annenberg school disbursement will be attached to the 2011-12 school year and will include some mentoring.

Per the recent USC news item:

Award recipients must demonstrate strong interest in the field of journalism, communication, public relations or public diplomacy. Extra consideration will be given to students who are of Latin-American descent, from the state of California and who have a demonstrated financial need. The $25,000 scholarship is renewable each year, provided that the students achieve standards set by the faculty and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

The USC grant is but the latest endowment made by Cisneros and her husband. Other beneficiaries include the California Chicano News Media Association, George Washington University (the Alma Mater of Gilbert Cisneros) and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Bravo!
