Here’s something to chew on. PBS NewsHour Political Editor Christina Bellantoni announces the hire of a new reporter-producer for the network’s politics team. She’s Cassie Chew, who comes to PBS from AIS Health. She formerly worked for Bloomberg and BNA to name a few.
Congratulations to Chew!
See the internal memo…
I’m pleased to announce that Cassie Chew will be joining the politics team as a reporter-producer starting April 30.
Cassie joins the NewsHour from AIS Health and the American Health Assistance Foundation, where she has acted as a one-woman-band telling news stories and delving into policy while covering Capitol Hill. She has been a freelance reporter and has worked for Bloomberg News, BNA News and the Wall Street Journal, among other posts. She’s won awards for her video production work on health care.
Simply put, she can do it all.
Cassie told me in her cover letter she’s become “hooked” on the NewsHour, so much so that she’s started ending her own on-camera interviews with, “Well, we’ll have to leave it there.”
Talking with Cassie’s references revealed not only her dedication to telling all angles of a story across all platforms, but also her dedication to the community. She’s an avid volunteer with a reputation for dedication and loyalty. Just one example: She’s returned as a film festival volunteer in Silver Spring year after year, helping the organization take its video screening library into the 21st century and maintaining institutional memory.
“When she focuses on a project she has great tenacity, sticks to it, gets it done,” one person said of Cassie. “She has a great sense of story,” another said.
She’s known as a great listener who can help quickly put interview subjects at ease when they sit in front of her lens.
We’re thrilled to have her on our team. This is the first hire among our grant-funded, election-year positions. They are for one calendar year. We’ll have more announcements in the coming weeks.
Please join me in welcoming Cassie (@indiefilmfan) to the NewsHour family. She’ll be by the studio in the next few weeks to meet everyone.
