An eye for an eye. A finger lopped off for the sake of sacrifice. Ken Strickland, NBC News Deputy Washington Bureau Chief, employed a horror movie metaphor on this morning’s MSNBC “The Daily Rundown.” The topic was the political climate, Congress and tax reform.
Can Congress achieve it?
“It’s going to be really, really tough because these are really at the crux of what each party stands for,” said Strickland. “Republicans don’t want to see any increase in taxes, Democrats are loathe to do anything to entitlements. …So At some point they are going to have to get in the room and quietly work out some type of agreement, come out of the room and say look, we’ve both lost a finger on each hand, like when they decided to raise the bush tax cuts. That’s kind of what happened. …Both had to sacrifice some things that were very very important to them.”
