James Beard and Bert Greene award-nominated writer Robb Walsh is no longer covering food and restaurants for The Houston Press as of today – just a little over two months short of what would have been a decade at the paper.
In an announcement on his personal Web site, Walsh professed to having mixed feelings about this change:
It’s sad to say goodbye. But along with the nostalgia, there’s a feeling of liberation. I am looking forward to a lot of projects I’ve always wanted to tackle, but never had the time for. My take on Texas culture, barbecue, cheese enchiladas, and all of those other monumental issues won’t disappear, they’ll just be relocated. You can keep up with me here – I’ll be blogging regularly at this website.
The Houston Press offered a heartfelt good-bye to Walsh on their site as they announced his decision to pursue freelance work and their interest in “looking for a new full-time staff food writer, because Houston, after all, is a city with many restaurants and residents who eat out a lot.”
