Stuck in a rut right before Memorial Day weekend? You’re not alone. If you’re looking for a little productivity pick-me-up, look no further.
Inspired by a post we read on Inc.com, Marla Tabaka writes, “The goal is to break your current, negative state by disrupting it with something that will ‘shock’ your internal chemist into action. Here are a few things I suggest you try to jump-start your productivity by adding some positivity. I admit a lot of them might make you look like a crazy person, but, in the pursuit of productivity, I’m willing to try anything.”
1. Smile at strangers. Of course, this entails unattaching yourself from your laptop or mobile device. Get out of that office, coffee shop or home! Tabaka suggests going for a 20 minute walk outside. Her advice? “Smile at the people you meet along the way. You will more than make up for the time with your increased productivity levels when you return.”
2. Bust a move. Want to funk it up? Move your body and groove into a make-shift dance party. Dance like no one is watching!
3. Talk to yourself. Hearing voices again? Good, as long as they’re good ones. She points out in her piece, “This sounds nuts, but take a cue from old-school motivational speakers and books: Pace around the room reciting empowering affirmations in a positive, confident tone of voice and great posture.”
4. Sing! Why stop the quirkiness at dancing? You can sing, too you know. This is especially helpful if you’re stressed out; shouting helps as well just be tactful of course on your location. If you’re working from home it’s a no brainer but if you’re in a cubicle, well you may want to think twice before belting out a song.
5. Phone a friend. In this techie age, you may not be able to recall the last time you physically talked to a friend after all of your texts and Facebook messages. Seriously, pick up the phone even if it’s to leave a quick message to let your friend know you wanted to say hi.
