The ‘Exeter Incident’ Turns 50

This weekend in Exeter, it was time to revisit some 1965 front-page news.

Here’s what it looked like on the front page of New Hampshire newspaper The Exeter News-Letter, back on Sept. 9, 1965:

And here’s what it looked like this past weekend in that same community, on the 50th anniversary of the so-called “Exeter Incident:”

The event featured a number of well-known subject matter experts like Stan Friedman. Local groups and businesses got into the alien spirit, including the Exeter Historical Society and Graham Tire & Auto:

Per the Associated Press, the UFO Festival was started several years ago by a Kiwanis Club member who was afraid that the 1965 UFO sightings were being largely forgotten. The 81-year-old Friedman, who survived a heart attack last summer, is busy once again, with engagements later this month at The UFO Truth Magazine Conference in Yorkshire, U.K. and the MUFON UFO Symposium in Irvine, Ca.
