CNN Digital Politics Adds Two Staffers

Tom LoBianco and Eugene Scott will join CNN's digital politics team.

The Indianapolis Star‘s Tom LoBianco and Eugene Scott of the Harvard Journal on African-American Policy are headed to CNN Digital Politics, according to a staff memo from CNN Politics executive editor, Rachel Smolkin, on Tuesday.

Prior to his time at the Star, LoBianco did some reporting for The Washington Times, covering Maryland politics on the Metropolitan Desk. While Scott, who is wrapping up his master’s degree at Harvard, has served as a reporter at the Arizona Republic and the Kansas City Star.

Smolkin welcomed the two to her team in a tweet this afternoon.

Below is full memo from Smolkin.

All,

I’m excited to announce two hires that will round out our terrific breaking news team.

Tom LoBianco joins us from The Indianapolis Star. Tom recently broke the news of Gov. Mike Pence’s plans to launch a taxpayer-funded news outlet run by the state — plans that he scrapped after the story broke. During Tom’s four years in Indiana, first at the Associated Press and then at the Star, he has spurred two resignations of top-level officials and sweeping ethics reforms at the statehouse. He’ll work Mondays through Fridays and starts later this month.

Eugene Scott will head here from Harvard University, where he is wrapping up his master’s degree in public administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Eugene, who is also senior editor of the Harvard Journal on African-American Policy, previously was a reporter at the Arizona Republic and the Kansas City Star. He’ll work Tuesdays through Saturdays and joins us June 16.

Please join me in welcoming them to CNN.

More to come.
