Cooper has been with the Chronicle since 2006. She joined as an assistant metro editor, and most recently served as managing editor. Under her watch, the Chronicle was a Pulitzer finalist last year.
Of Cooper’s appointment, Mark Aldam, president of Hearst Newspapers, said “Audrey’s news leadership at the Chronicle is emblematic of the future of all of our newspapers and websites: employ innovative storytelling to connect readers with the news and information that matters most to them.”
A search for a new managing editor to succeed Cooper is currently underway.
