Wisk Becomes TiVo CMO

NEW YORK TiVo, a leader in the digital video recorder category, has named Matt Wisk senior vice president and chief marketing officer. He started with the Alviso, Calif.-based company on Monday.

Wisk, who was named the Grand Marketer of the Year by Adweek sibling Brandweek in 2000 when he was vice president of marketing at Nokia, comes from Herbalife International, where he has been CMO since July 2003.

Wisk will direct TiVo’s global marketing efforts, including branding, product marketing, corporate communications, public relations, online marketing and customer relationship marketing.

According to Nielsen Monitor-Plus, while TiVo spent $41 million in advertising in 2000, the company’s ad budget was just $100,000 in 2003; from January through July 2004, it spent $300,000. Grant, Scott & Hurley, San Francisco, is TiVo’s lead agency.

“The emotional connection consumers have to the TiVo brand has been a key factor behind the growth of the TiVo sub base,” Wisk said in a statement. “I’m eager to work with the marketing, service and engineering organizations to take advantage of these assets to drive growth to help extend TiVo’s lead position in the marketplace.”
