Wilie Fills Top Posts at Witherspoon

DALLAS Mike Wilie has been promoted to chairman and chief executive officer of Witherspoon Advertising and Public Relations.

Wilie, who previously served as executive vice president, also becomes a majority shareholder of the Fort Worth, Texas, shop.

The move comes four months after the death of Roger Rienstra, who held the positions of chairman and CEO. Rienstra had not been active in agency operations for over a year before succumbing to brain cancer, however, and many of his duties were performed by Wilie and shop president Debra Morrow.

Wilie said he will continue supervising the accounts he has in the past, which include the Austin-American Statesman and the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, and will still oversee the shop’s media functions.

“It’s a [title] change, but it’s also a firmer commitment to the things we’ve been doing the past three to four years since Debra was named president,” Wilie said. “We took a new direction on how we approach business and client satisfaction and those efforts are reinvigorated.”

The 27-year veteran of the agency said there are no immediate plans to promote someone to the executive vice presidency.
