The market for jobs in advertising, media and marketing showed some signs of life last month, judging by the volume of help-wanted classified ads in Adweek. The numbers are all over the map, but that’s better than the many months in which they’ve all gone south. One caveat: The national total for January 2002 was down 76 percent from the January 2001 figure, which in turn was down 61 percent from the January 2000 number. In other words, while the positive numbers in this 2003 chart are a joy to behold, keep in mind that they’re coming off a very low base.
