NEW YORK Lori Senecal, president of McCann Erickson here, has been named president and CEO of MDC Partners’ Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners. The New York-based agency will now be known as Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners, and Senecal will join its board of directors.
Aaron Reitkopf, KBP’s CEO, who has been with the firm for 12 years, is leaving, sources said.
MDC has been searching for new leadership to revitalize the 22-year-old shop, whose namesake partners are set to receive their final earn-outs early next year.
At McCann N.Y., C. Thomas Gruhler has been promoted to president from evp, worldwide account director, replacing Senecal. Said McCann Worldgroup COO Eric Keshin: “Thom’s ability to deliver smart, effective, industry-leading work across communications channels is extraordinary, as are his leadership skills. He builds businesses by building teamwork. Importantly, he also recognizes talent and brings out the best in individuals. In partnership with chief creative officer Joyce King Thomas, he truly is the right leader at the right time.”
As a result of the KBP’s rebranding, it is believed that Senecal was given an ownership stake. She takes over day-to-day operations. The agency’s founders, co-chairmen Richard Kirshenbaum and Jon Bond, will now focus on client relationships and new ventures.
Prior to helming McCann N.Y., Senecal was global chief innovation officer and director of content integration at McCann Worldgroup. In 2003 she launched TAG Ideation, a young-adult marketing specialty unit that works for key McCann clients like Microsoft. Senecal has also been worldwide account director for Coca-Cola.
“Lori has an outstanding reputation for creativity, innovation, and thought leadership which has always been our agency’s foundation,” said Kirshenbaum. “She is an outstanding executive that we are proud to have lead our agency. We have been privileged to have many talented executives within our organization, but Lori is the first person that we felt would truly enhance our reputation as a named partner on our masthead.”
Added Bond: “The combination of Lori’s fresh, innovative leadership with the financial backing of MDC Partners gives us all the resources we need to reach our entrepreneurial goal of defining the agency of the future.”
