Superfriends Are ‘Whassup’

Somebody’s messing with Budweiser’s “Whassup?” homeboys.
A Quicktime software-based Internet version of the popular TV spot from DDB Chicago (see Creative, page 26) has Superman, Aquaman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Robin in the featured roles of slackers whose conversation consists mainly of the exaggerated greeting “Whassuuuuuup?”
The video, dubbed “Superfriends,” was available last week on www.adcritic.com. It was also posted, for unknown reasons, on the Detroit People Mover mass transit Web site.
No one seems to know who is behind the video. Sources at the agency said no one there is pleased that the idea has been appropriated, even though a basic goal at the shop is to work its ads into pop culture.
A representative from Anheuser-Busch could not be reached for comment on the piracy.
Blame it on new media. “If this happened anywhere but the Internet, they would be sued,” assured one source.
