Staples Taps Martin/Williams

CHICAGO–Staples awarded broadcast creative duties on its $70 million account to Martin/Williams following a review, a client representative confirmed.

The Minneapolis agency bested Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis, Wieden + Kennedy in New York and The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va. Incumbent Cliff Freeman and Partners in New York, which held the account for eight years, did not defend. Consultancy Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif., handled the search.

The review came as the Framingham, Mass., retailer is planning a shift to target the business sector, rather than consumers. It was not known if Cliff Freeman’s line, “Yeah, we got that,” would remain.

Grey Global Group’s MediaCom will continue to handle media.
