SOMETHING TO COUNT ON

No one knows exactly what Y2K will bring, but Oregonians needn’t worry. There’ll still be lottery winners, no matter what happens.
That’s the message of a new 30-second commercial from Moffatt/Rosenthal for the Oregon Lottery.
The Portland, Ore., agency figured it’d have some fun with the Y2K hysteria. The spot shows a group of New Year’s revelers counting down the final seconds to 2000. But impending doom strikes the partygoers as the lights begin to flicker at midnight.
Turns out their cowering is for naught. The source of the mayhem is one of the city’s electric power control rooms, where a janitor is unwittingly bumping a power grid on and off while dancing in celebration.
A voicover says that while the millennium is bringing uncertainty, viewers are assured that somebody will win cash with the Oregon Lottery’s Countdown 2000 Scratch-Its. The tag is, “Something good just might happen.”
