Sharon Stone to Star in AOL Spot

NEW YORK America Online Broadband has induced Sharon Stone to make a rare commercial appearance, in one of two ads from BBDO breaking on the March 23 Academy Awards broadcast on ABC, sources said.

The new work from the New York agency features Stone and the client’s “running man” logo in a spot relaunching the Broadband service; the ad incorporates the many AOL Time Warner properties that subscribers will have access to. Both spots are 30 seconds.

Broadband comprises the bulk of the $150 million AOL account, and BBDO beat out Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston, Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., Crispin Porter & Bogusky in Miami and Saatchi & Saatchi and DDB, both New York, in a review for the account. Gotham in New York was the previous agency and was dismissed in January.

BBDO and Wieden are expected to be briefed this week on the corporate-image account for AOL, sources said. Interpublic Group’s Initiative handles media.
