Red Cell Network Appoints Mellman COO

NEW YORK WPP Group’s Red Cell has named its first chief operating officer, a representative for the agency network confirmed. Laurence Mellman, who was COO of the holding company’s International Specialist Communications, is joining Red Cell in London.

ISC oversees WPP’s promotions, sports and entertainment companies. Mellman was instrumental in integrating Bates into Red Cell Europe after WPP bought the agency as Cordiant Communications Group dissolved.

No start date was immediately available for Mellman, 38.

“Laurence is an extremely senior veteran of WPP’s highest levels of management,” said Red Cell chairman and CEO Andy Berlin. “To have him in a senior position at Red Cell based in Europe will give us an enormous advantage. He represents continuity as well as seniority.”

Mellman joins as Lee Daley, who was co-CEO of the network with Berlin, is managing his exit from Red Cell. Berlin is also chairman, CEO of Berlin Cameron/Red Cell in New York.
