Despite their hard-earned reputation for improvidence, men are more likely than women to have started saving for retirement before hitting age 30. A Rasmussen Reports/Country Financial poll finds 42 percent of men, vs. 35 percent of women, saying they started by then. This jibes with the finding that 29 percent of women, vs. 44 percent of men, believe a middle-income family can save enough for a secure retirement.

When asked to cite the age at which they began saving for retirement, 26 percent of respondents confessed that they haven’t yet begun.
