Publicis Buys Consultancy

WASHINGTON Continuing its recent string of specialty shop acquisitions, Publicis Groupe said it has purchased The McGinn Group, a risk communications consulting firm.

The Paris-based holding company will operate the shop as McGinn MS&L, under the aegis of its Manning Selvage & Lee public relations group.

The Arlington, Va., firm handles litigation communications, advocacy and intellectual property issues for clients like General Motors, First Data, ChoicePoint and Pacific Gas & Electric, among others.

“This acquisition consolidates the group’s leading position in corporate communications, and our clients will benefit from this new broader offering, particularly in issues management,” said Publicis chairman and CEO Maurice Lévy, in a statement.”

The talent, culture and core values of McGinn are complementary [with Publicis] in a way that makes this the right decision,” said Dan McGinn, the consultancy’s CEO.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Publicis has been especially aggressive on the acquisitions front of late, adding specialty companies large and small.

Its biggest buy, of course, was Boston-based i-shop Digitas, a $1.3 billion deal completed as the year began and designed to bolster the company’s capabilities in digital marketing.

Publicis in April acquired a majority stake in Chinese marketing agency Yong Yang to strengthen its Asian operations and in March acquired healthcare shop Pharmagistics in Somerset, N.J.
