PRTek Is Acquired

Ackermann PR haspurchased local public relations agency PRTek.

The Knoxville, Tenn.-basedAckermann gains PRTek’s staff of four full-time and 11contract workers. Added to Ackermann’s existing Dallas office, the group will serve as a Southwest hub with clients in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, Texas.

PRTek, whose major client is VHB Technologies of Dallas, has focused on emerging and midsize technology companies since its inception in 1994. Like other agencies specializing in the tech sector, PRTek has seen its revenue decline significantly this year.

But “that was not the impetus for this deal,” said PRTek founder Cynthia Stine. “We joined with Ackermann because we were excited to find a company that was like us, but a little further down the road. It’s going to allow us to reach goals that would have taken us so much longer on our own.”

The combined $6 million agency will operate under the banner ofAckermann PR LP. The new organization will also include a technology division to be known as Ackermann PRTek.

“For several years, Ackermann PR has served clients in the Dallas area, and we’ve seen our Texas business grow significantly,” said Cathy Ackermann, founder and president of Ackermann PR. “Joining with PRTek gives us an immediately expanded capability … with people who understand the markets and are well-connected throughout the region.”
