PlayStation In 3-Way Tie-In

Sony Computer Entertainment of America, in a summer tie-in with PepsiCo and the film Tomb Raider, says it will offer $5 off PlayStation titles from Eidos, the maker of the Tomb Raider game.

The promotion, including a sweepstakes on 300 million Pepsi bottles, also dangles 2,000 free PlayStation 2 and 3,000 PlayStation 1 consoles. Plans call for “heavy TV” advertising to support the promotion, said Andrew House, marketing vice president for the Sony unit. BBDO, New York, handles Pepsi’s advertising.

Meanwhile, House said PlayStation 2 on track to deliver 7 million units after working out a microchip glitch that resulted in a product shortfall when the game bowed last fall.
