OlympuSAT to Launch UBC-TV

NEW YORK — Promoting itself as a network devoted to “reconnecting and strengthening America’s urban communities,” Urban Broadcasting Company, based in Harlem, New York, will launch UBC-TV in June, 2001.
West Palm Beach, Fla.-based OlympuSAT will launch the 24 hour network on its “Family Pack” of networks distributed to cable operators and direct broadcast satellite operators.
In a news release, UBC said the network’s launch is part of the company’s overall convergence strategy, which will include programming on cable, satellite, Internet, radio, and wireless devices.
Some of the new shows UBC plans to broadcast are UBC’s Urban News Report, UBC Classic Black Movie Theater, and UBC’s Poetry Cafe.

UBC also announced it will relaunch a newly formatted affiliate Web site this week that will include streaming audio and video, personalized web pages, e-mail and chat capabilities, among other features, Peggy Dodson, president and ceo of UBC, says the Web site has “performed beyond any of our expectations, receiving up to 20,000 hits a day just by word-of-mouth.”
