Ogilvy’s O’Meara To JWT

Returns to Atlanta in New Business, Planning Role
DALLAS–J. Walter Thompson in Atlanta has tapped into Ogilvy & Mather, New York, to recruit new business and strategic planning principal Edward O’Meara.
O’Meara steps in to fill the shoes of former senior vice president Chris Hall. Hall left his group account and business development duties at J. Walter Thompson in March to take over as president and chief executive officer of BBDO South in Atlanta.
O’Meara becomes senior partner and management director for JWT, reporting to executive vice president and Atlanta general manager Jeffrey White. O’Meara had been senior partner and worldwide planning director at Ogilvy.
While his immediate account responsibility is the Atlanta agency’s U.S. Marine Corp. business, O’Meara has been asked to utilize his technology-oriented background as he directs J. Walter Thompson’s new business activities.
“[Atlanta] is a burgeoning high-tech market,” with both consumer and business-to-business advertising opportunities, said O’Meara.
New business was Hall’s forte for 12 years at the agency. He assisted in bringing in clients like Entergy Corp., Maxfli Golf and the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
White said O’Meara’s worldwide planning experience for Ogilvy clients IBM and Lotus was a prime factor in his selection for the post.
O’Meara, a native Atlantan, said he has been looking to get back to the Southeast after a dozen years at Ogilvy offices in New York and Los Angeles.
“I had mentioned to the management at Ogilvy I would be interested in any [O&M] openings here,” said O’Meara. “They have been incredibly supportive” of his move to JWT, a sister WPP Group network.
O’Meara’s other account experience at Ogilvy and as a freelancer includes Microsoft, Kroger, Visio, Tivoli Systems and Acme Supermarkets.
