Struggling Boston independent Modernista! today disclosed a pair of senior leadership moves, including the promotion of Matt Howell to president, where he takes over from agency co-founder Gary Koepke, who served in that post on an interim basis.
An R/GA veteran, Howell (pictured) had been Modernista!’s chief interactive officer.
Koepke and Lance Jensen, the agency’s other co-founder, continue to serve as agency cds as they’ve done since the shop launched a decade ago.
In addition, Alex Hesz, who joined Modernista! as client services director in June, has been promoted to managing director. He was previously at DDB London.
The other key managers of the 60-person shop are Sebastian Gard, director of social media, and cds Davi Liu and Xavier Teo.
The restructuring follows several rounds of layoffs and key client departures, most notably GM’s Cadillac and Hummer and cellphone brand Palm, long Modernista! calling cards.
On the plus side, Showtime picked Modernista! to create an alternate reality game to promote Season 5 of its hit series Dexter. The multimedia push includes Web sites and short fills, among other elements.
