Metrocorp Acquires ‘Boston’s Weekly Dig’

BOSTON Metrocorp said it has purchased a majority stake in alternative newspaper Boston’s Weekly Dig.

“Metrocorp will enhance, not change, this publication. We are making this investment because we believe in the power, the influence and the potential of the Dig’s readership,” said Metrocorp president David Lipson, in a statement.

The paper’s founder and publisher Jeff Lawrence said: “This is a huge opportunity for the Dig. We’ve spent a great deal of time searching for the right partner. This deal will allow us to team up with a first-rate publisher to dramatically enhance our ability to serve our readers and advertisers.”

Joe Keohane will remain editor and the existing staff will be expanded to handle the additional editorial and advertising content planned for the paper, which targets the 18-34 demographic with coverage of music, the arts and politics. Circulation is about 30,000.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Philadelphia-based Metrocorp’s other titles include Boston and Philadelphia magazines, Elegant Wedding, Concierge, Home & Garden and New England Travel and Life.
